A Series of Dissident Articles

Ever since the shocking events of Tuesday, September 11, 2001, I've viewed with some dismay the reactions of our country and its leaders. I've expressed myself in opinion articles on my web page, and I continue to do so. I have nearly all the articles available through this index. The top item will always be the latest, I can't be sure about the order of all of the others.

You will notice that most of the recent articles have to do with the Iraq war. To me that's the most troubling of our responses because it was, ultimately, unrelated to the attacks on New York and Washington. And I believe it has made our country far less secure rather than, as the president contends, safer.

My articles may, at times, sound partisan because I rarely attempt to hide my contempt for George Bush. But you will notice that while I think philadering Bill was less harmful to the country, he was not an admirable person. I am a registered Democrat (which, in my part of the country used to mean a rampant right-winger who couldn't abide the thought of Abraham Lincoln). But I have a lot of concerns about some of the stands taken by the average Democrat, Kerry included.

You will also note that while I am Christian, I don't approve of the actions of the religious right. I believe in personal morality in which each individual is expected to control his or her own behavior. "Public" morality is not morality at all, for many people will act morally only because they won't be punished, not because they accept moral restraints as a fundamental part of their character.
