Education

Master's Degree: August, 1995 from Andrews University, Berrien Springs, MI 49104. Master of Arts in Education with a major in curriculum and instruction. One area of special study was in the use of models of teaching.
State Certification: August, 1986 to December, 1987 (plus one course in early 1989) at SUNY Geneseo, Geneseo, NY 14454. Included my first course in models of teaching and gave me my first real exposure to the world of personal computers.
Bachelor's Degree: June, 1981 from Andrews University, Berrien Springs, MI 49104. Bachelor of Arts with a major in Mass Media and a minor in Music. Active in student newspaper, employed part-time at the university-owned public station, WAUS, sang with glee club one year, member of honors society.
Evangelistic / Practical Training: August, 1972 to August, 1975 at Eden Valley Institute, Loveland, CO. Three year religion-oriented course with skill-oriented adjunct. Worked in home and commercial construction, appliance repair, auto and diesel mechanics, printing, agriculture, and nursing assistant.
High School: Graduated May, 1972 from Castle Valley Institute, Moab, Utah. Obtained GED in 1977 in Michigan. Castle Valley studies included home and commercial electrical service and installation, plus some general contracting and agricultural skills.

Professional Experience:

CENTRIA, Sheridan, AR plant (formerly H. H. Robertson)
Quality Auditor, June 1998 to present: Specific duties were to prepare documentation for ISO 9002 certification. Have become an expert "Office 97/2000" user, learning SQL and Visual Basic for Applications through development of Access databases. Frequently assigned various data gathering duties. Main user of statistical process control program. Local network administrator/help desk. Phone system administrator, including programming of NEC NEAX2000 IVS. Assist with training programs (frequently doing the presentations), Still photographs as needed (use Photo Editor to remove orange tint from stills). Environmental assistant including annual Form R, Title V Air Permit recordkeeping, maintain "Right to Know" compliance program, including organizing MSDS files.
Panel Maker B, November, 1997 to June, 1998: Assigned first to roll line, then to packaging crew on night shift. Chosen to paint safety lines on plant floor, helped initiate a safety modification to a plant-built wood saw.
KAAY, Citadel Communications Corporation, Little Rock, AR
Weekend announcer at religious station, October, 1998 to present. Midnight to 8 A. M. Sundays. Now 6 A. M. to 2 P. M. Sundays. Developed and maintain web page for station, occasionally offer technical assistance to board operators at sister station KARN.
Bay Knoll Seventh-day Adventist Church School, Rochester, NY
Teacher/Principal at one-room church-sponsored elementary school. July, 1996 to October, 1996. Personally involved in a major cleaning and reorganization of the physical plant, including refurbishing the eight personal computers.Responsible for all textbook ordering, including implementation of a new textbook series. Personally handled all state-mandated paperwork, relations with operating board, and all requirements of the sponsoring organization.
Two Cats Publishing -- Personally-owned business
Vice President, co-owner, and computer programmer for education oriented software company. March, 1993 to September, 1997. Started company to market "Small Schools Computer Speller" which I developed for use in my classroom. Other products were "Fruit Orders DataBase," and "Bible CryptoVerse." The latter program, developed for Windows, was marketed through a church publishing company and Bible Games Company, a distributing firm. Company suffered a severe blow when I missed figuring out that a graphic artist had goofed up on a box design and we ended up spending $1400 on useless boxes. Last official use of business name with development of a preventive maintenance scheduler for Kneeland Industries of Fairview, MI. This program was modified for use at CENTRIA, but has been replaced by an Access database.
Mio Seventh-day Adventist Church School, Mio, MI
Teacher/Principal at one-room church-sponsored elementary school. July, 1992 to June, 1996. Reopened this school after it had been closed for two and a half years. Reestablished "Right to Know" compliance program. In charge of all instructional programs and responsible for compliance with state regulations. Also involved in local church as deacon, elder, and lay preacher.
Marquette Seventh-day Adventist Church School, Marquette, MI
Teacher/Principal at one-room church-sponsored elementary school. July, 1989 to June, 1992. Opened this school which had not existed previously. Helped with building construction during the summer prior to first school year. Because of a delay in getting an occupancy permit, served as "circuit-riding" teacher for the first few months. Established all instructional and regulatory compliance programs including Michigan's "Right to Know" law (covers OSHA's Hazard Communication standard). Took care of physical and paperwork tasks associated with closing the school when the sponsoring church ran out of money. Involved in local church as head elder for one year.
WECQ -- Eastern Radio Company, Geneva, NY
Weekend DJ midnight to 6:00 A. M. at WECQ-FM, Geneva, October, 1988 to May, 1989. Hot AC format.
WACK -- Pembrook Pines Broadcasting, Newark, NY
Weekend DJ at WACK-AM, Newark, August 1986 to September, 1989. Usually did Sunday noon to 8 P. M. on AC, satellite-delivered format. DJ partial hours around sportscasts, continued involvement in station engineering.
News Director, June, 1983 to August, 1986 and June, July, and August of 1987. Wrote, produced, and anchored all morning drive newscasts, and responsible for all other news programming. Also involved in commercial writing and production. Won an award from the New York State Broadcasters' Association for a series of drunk driving awareness PSAs. Produced news documentary program, "To Burn or Not To Burn," about a proposed waste-to-energy incinerator in the summer of 1987. Involved in station engineering. Developed a semi-automation system linked to satellite programming which allowed a full hour of unattended operation. Did some upkeep and repair on Harris all-transistor 5000-watt AM transmitter.
WATS / WAVR Sayre, PA and Waverly, NY
Announcer and acting news director at simulcast station group in border community, April, 1982 to June, 1983. Hired on as recent college grad doing afternoon and evening shifts. Moved to morning drive after a few months when a 10-year veteran took a position at UPI, Washington. As acting news director, oversaw all news gathering activities plus a high school writing intern. Developed a set of up-tempo instrumentals to be used during morning drive. (The station had no network affiliation, but owner had set up automation to start newscasts at a specific time by fading out music from an instrumental reel. He then insisted that morning drive people fast forward past down-tempo music on these reels, and some of them had a lot!)
WHUH, Stereo 98, Houghton, MI
Announcer and news reporter August, 1981 to January, 1982. Originally hired to supervise program automation system while regular announcer covered news. Later sent to cover news events directly. Also worked two 8-hour weekend shifts, usually 10 P. M. Saturday to 6 A. M. Sunday, and 2 P. M. to 10 P. M Sunday. Turned down an offer of the weekday 10 P. M. to 6 A. M. shift in December.
Thomas Macraine, Dairy, Chassell, MI
Farm hand summer of 1980 and June to November, 1981. General dairy farm chores including stacking hay, operation of "haybine" and Allis Chalmers "Gleaner" combine. Occasional stock handling chores, including an assist of a bovine cesarean.
Student Movement, Andrews University, Berrien Springs, MI
Occasional writer March, 1979 to June, 1979. News Editor September, 1979 to June, 1980. Photo Editor September, 1980 to December, 1980. Involved as journalism student in student newspaper. As news editor did layout of front page. Also heavily involved in production, including "fighting" with temperamental phototypesetter. Did layout "on the board" with one assistant of first issue of the '80-'81 school year (new staff was still learning how to do editing and layout).
WHFB AM-FM, Palladium Publishing Company, Benton Harbor, MI
Announcer and board operator at station group co-owned with local newspaper, November, 1977 to January, 1979. Usually 6 P. M. to midnight shift two weekdays, plus weekend shifts. Some commercial production. DJ on AM in months when the daytime station was on past 6:00 P. M. Also covered newsroom during those hours. Commended for board operation during live election coverage. Also commended for news coverage of a flash flood in our listening area one Sunday.
WION AM, WYON FM, Ionia and Grand Rapids, MI
Announcer, August, 1976 to September, 1977. First part-time, moved to full-time in November of 1976 on 50,000 watt FM in Grand Rapids. For a short period did both 5 A. M. to noon at FM and 1:30 P. M. to 6:00 P. M. at AM. Took over midday and evening at AM when FM sold.

Part-time announcer June to August, 1975. After two weeks worked full 10-hour broadcast day on Sundays.

Other Interests and Hobbies:

Music
Occasionally serve as pianist and/or chorister for local church. Enjoy writing my own music (see MIDI selections on this site). Recently prepared a number of MIDI arrangements to use as accompaniment for congregational singing.
Theology
Currently an elder in the local church. Have a monthly preaching assignment. Volunteer Bible Specialist with Bibleinfo.com, answer Bible questions by email.
Computers
Enjoy just about any type of programming. Still have Turbo Pascal 5.5 and Turbo C++ for Windows (both Borland) on my personal computer. Experimented with Java development on my wife's former Windows 95 computer. Have a smattering of machine language experience. Working on learning OpenOffice.org Basic.
